So as we live here in our hypocritical society, we get to see people who come up volunteering their so-called societal values and beliefs about people’s mental health, well being and emotional conditions, it becomes really difficult for the common people to seek out help from the society.
Hypocritical approach towards Psychology and mental health
What these hypocritical people believe is that suffering from mental health disorders always involve serious dysfunctionality within people’s mind and behaviour. These people always try to take things upon themselves and come up with their own validations about the issue. They believe that having some kind of emotional disorder literally means being insane and which according to me is one of the biggest myths of the whole damn Universe. Hypocrisy here as an abstract sticks to believing and moving on with values and morals for centuries which are not logically correct and pragmatic at all.
Psychology in the past versus that of the present.
The Past
In the past decades, people knew, studied or rather researched much less about such topics which were or even are the main reason behind this unawareness of the society. Also in the past people were conservative and even if someone suffered from mild mental health issues or emotional disorders, they weren’t brave enough or rather unwilling to speak up about it. Also, the help or therapy services that we get today were not available in the past. So these things went unnoticed until and unless somebody’s psychological condition transformed into a severe behavioural disorder. Even then kinds of superstitious solutions for the problems were taken into consideration which even involved killing people and insulting them in the name of black magic and witchcraft. People with mental health issues were isolated and deprived of all basic human necessities of even food, water, clothing etc.
The Present
In the present, people have a more accepting attitude towards these issues. Yeah but again as is the universal rule of the societal sarcasm, there is still a bunch of hypocrites left in our society who try to continue with the same age-old illogical beliefs about psychology. To bring up the dark part of our modern society, there are some new issues regarding mental health disorders that are coming up gradually. As of now where people are more vocal about their own emotional conditions, some people take advantage of their hard times and discourage them. Also, a part of the so-called elite class like filmmakers and political professionals use these issues for their own gain. Also nowadays most of the people start from the very morning and continue till late night, then there are issues like domestic violence, sexual harassments, gender-biased behaviour, bullying and most prominently loneliness and abandonment issues which require immediate attention
The Available help
In today’s world psychology is a highly rated topic with much importance. There are clinical psychologists, professionals and therapy services available nowadays more or less at every place. There are people who take it up as a subject and research about it. There are self-help groups, government helplines, and non-profit organizations that try to help out people suffering from psychological disorders. But still, after everything, there are those age-old hypocritical traditions that try to exaggerate things in the wrong way.
Thank you.
