The face of Bengal(বাংলার মুখ)

'বাংলা মুখের' কথা অনুসরণ করলেই আমাদের চোখের সামনে ভেসে ওঠে এক সরল, নির্মল, সুন্দর কিন্তু প্রাণবন্ত বাংলার পরিকাঠামোর চিত্র| সেই পরিকাঠামোয় গড়া হাজার হাজার বাঙালির মূর্তি অনন্তকাল ধরে এই শস্য-শ্যামলা বাংলাকে বিভিন্ন স্তরে সমৃদ্ধ করে এসেছে এবং বাংলাকে বিশ্বজোড়া সম্মান উপহার দিয়েছে| কিন্তু আজ যেন কোথায় সেই মূর্তির আকারে কোন খুঁত থেকে গেছে| সেই খুতঁ-এর দায় আজ বাংলা ভাষার গুরুত্ব যেন থেকেও নেই| যেমন এক নাট্যকারের প্রয়োজন হয় এক মঞ্চের তার শিল্পকে মানুষের কাছে প্রদর্শন করার জন্য তেমনি এই বাংলার প্রয়োজন প্রকৃত বাঙালির যারা বাংলা ভাষাকে এবং তার বিপুল ভান্ডারকে গর্বিত কণ্ঠে তুলে ধরবে এই পৃথিবীর মানুষ সমাজের মঞ্চে| কিন্তু এখন যা প্রয়োজন তা হলো আমাদের তৎকালীন যুবক-যুবতীদের তাদের শিখরের মর্যাদা খানেক মনে করিয়ে দেওয়া।

বাংলা- যে ভাষায় তারা কথোপকথন করে অভ্যস্ত সেই বাল্যকাল থেকে সেই ভাষাকে চিহ্নিত করা হয়েছে পৃথিবীর দ্বিতীয় তম মধুরতম ভাষার সম্মানে। সে ভাষার মায়ের হাতের পায়েসের সামনে ফিকে পড়ে যায় বিদেশি স্বাচ্ছন্দের সকল আহার। সে সংস্কৃতির দুর্গাপুজো একত্রিত করে সকল পরিবারকে। শীতের চায়ের দোকানের আড্ডা কিংবা গলির বাডমিনটন খেলা সে সংস্কৃতির কিছু অবর্জনীয় নিয়ম। সে ভাষার সঙ্গীত এবং নৃত্য শিল্পেরও নেই কোনো অভাব। তাই সকল প্রথম সারির যুবক-যুবতীদের কাছে আমার বিনীত অনুরোধ যে তারা যেন এই পৃথিবীর বুকে বাংলার এক একটা উজ্জ্বল মুখ হয়ে দাঁড়ায়।

আমি আমার বক্তব্য কবি জীবনানন্দ দাশের এক উদ্ধৃতি দিয়ে শেষ করতে চাই "বাংলার মুখ আমি দেখিয়াছি, তাই পৃথিবীর রূপ খুঁজিতে যাইনা আর"।

Translation:

The moment we begin to wonder about our face of Bengal our eyes seems to be bestowed with a simple, pleasant, beautiful yet jovial scenery of our motherland Bengal. The thousands and thousands of Bengali figures which have been built by this prosperous and vivid land, have contributed to making its culture rich in variant spheres and have gifted the birthplace with worldwide significance and respect. But today we find some deformity in those figures which has made the existence of Bengali culture omnipresent. Like an artist who always needs a stage to show and portray his skills to his audience, this Bengal also needs some true Bengalis who would uphold their motherland's elite with a proud heart on this world's huge platform. So the need of the hour is to give a reminder to all the youths of this generation regarding their affluent heritage.

The language we use to communicate our feelings since the first day we spoke, the language which is regarded as the second sweetest medium in the world and the language used by a huge sum of the population is none other than Bengali. Therefore does the ignorance of our motherland actually suit us? Continental dishes may be awesome but they lose their flavour to a mother's hand cooked payesh. The joy of playing badminton in the winter afternoons or the evening tea meets at shops of Bengal cannot be replaced with an alternative. The musical and cultural richness of Bengal has also not left to enrich it's tradition.

Therefore, I convey my heartfelt request to all the front row youths to emboss their names as glorious representatives of Bengal in the world's heart.

Hence, I end by recapitulating the quote written by the poet Jibananda Das, "Having seen the face of Bengal, I do not wish to explore this world's beauty ".
